Our Gozo Outreach
On the 12th of May 2010, a group of 53 students from our school, accompanied by some of our teachers, met at 7.00 in the morning as we had to be early in order to catch the 8.15 ferry to Gozo. We were going to visit the rural village of Kercem.
Floriana has got a twinning programme with Kercem as both localities share very similar characteristics. Apart from this both schools are participating in the EkoSkola Project. The aim of this visit was to promote as much as possible our work in EkoSkola and to help our friends at Kercem as they are still fresh in this venture.
As soon as we arrived in Kercem we had a very warm welcome. The Mayor of Kercem treated all of us with fresh fruits and fruit juice. He showed us a very interesting fsature about the beautiful natural sites of the village. Our EkoSkola Committee members explained our work and we all sang some songs from our repertoire to them. Later we were led to visit the Lunzjata Valley. In the past this place was reserved as the Grand Master’s hunting ground. Nowadays it is a spot of natural beauty as there are various types of endemic trees and three different natural springs.
Later in the day we also visited Ggantija Temples and the Ta’ Kola Windmill. Our visit to Gozo came to an end with lunch and free time at Xlendi. Our special thanks go to our dedicated teachers, to the Local Councils of Floriana and Kercem and to the EkoSkola teachers.
