At the Launch of the Maratona Bir-Roti 2015

This year’s edition of the Maratona bir-Roti was launched at the President’s Palace in Valletta on Thursday 22nd January.  Our school was represented by a group of lively happy youngsters from our Year 1 and Year 2 classes.  All wore cardboard crowns with the symbolic red heart on top.  Earlier during the week Ms. Brenda Cefai and two of our students joined a larger group made up of children from all schools in our College and visited the President’s Palace in Valletta were they where the guests of H.E. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, the President of the Republic of Malta. This year the bicycle marathon is going to be held at the San Ġorġ Preca College Ħamrun Boys’ School on the 13th, 14th and 15th of March and all funds are going towards the purchase of more AED machines in order to donate one to more schools and sports clubs. Our school was one of the first beneficiaries that recieved an AED machine last year.  This machine was installed in our school’s entrance area a couple of weeks ago. We are already planning our own event to raise funds so that we can be part of it all!  During this year’s launch, which was meant to be held in Saint George’s Square, there were some heavy rain downpours.  Well, let’s be positive about it all and say that this was a sign of good luck!

22nd January – The Day that marks a Great Man!

Saint Publius – Malta’s First Bishop.

When Saint Paul was about to leave the island of Malta, he wanted to leave the newly founded Christian community in the hands of a good leader. His choice was obvious – young Publius, the governor of Malta, was the right man. Publius was anointed bishop by Saint Paul himself shortly before his departure to Rome. Publius became a very goo bishop and under his leadership and care, the church in Malta grew from a very small community to a much larger group of people.

Publius had a very big house in the city of Mdina and the site of this house soon became the place were Malta’s Cathedral was built. The present day Cathedral is still built on the same place were Publius used to live. His other residence, in Burmarrad, is still called San Pawl Milqi because it is the place were it is believed that Publius greeted Paul when the latter was taken there to heal Publius’s sick father. January 22nd marks the feast of this important and holy man who forms such an important part of our history.

Promoting reading at its best!

Reading is very important for the holistic well being of every person.  We all know this very well and, at school,  we have been stressing the importance of reading every single day.  On Wednesday 21st January our school hosted Dr. Corazon Mizzi and Mr. Justin Haber who came to our school to promote reading.  The event kicked off in the school foyer were the members of the Students’ council welcommed our guests. Story telling sessions were held in some classrooms.  Everyone was surprised by the presence of Agenda’s Bookshop mascot: a giant furry sweet dog  He jumped about and really made everyone feel happy!  After a short break everyone assembled in our school hall were a forum was held.  Some pupils asked very interesting questions to our guesst and all listened attentively to their answers.  Then it was time for some singing.  It goes without saying that we have to treat our guests to some songs from our repertoire! We must say that they were impressed by our enthusiasm and the warm environment that our school provides. Dr. Corazon and Mr. Justin signed the visitors’ book before leaving and we gave them small mementos as a souvenir of their visit to our school.  This was a really enjoyable and educational activity that was appreciated by one and all.

Milqugħin b’tislima mill-isbaħ mill-President ta’ Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca

Il-ftuħ tal-Maratona bir-Roti din is-sena sar bi kbir. L-eċċellenza tagħha għoġobha tilqagħna f’kamra fil-Palazz fejn is-soltu tilqa’ nies ta’ fama importanti ħafna. B’hekk urietna kemm għandha għal qalbha din l-attività li ma baqgħetx fil-Kulleġġ tagħna biss iżda nfirxet mal-kulleġġi kollha f’Malta u f’Għawdex.

Għal din l-okkażżjoni kont jien l-għalliema li attendejt bi ħġari. Għażilna żewġt itfal mit-tielet klassi wkoll. Dawn huma Yasmin Mackay u Elias Bezzina Cascino. Għalina kienet esperjenza unika fejn stajna nitkellmu wiċċ imb’wiċċ mal-eċċellenza tagħha mingħajr l-ebda mistħija. Intbaħna kemm hi persuna li żżomm saqajha mal-art u t-tgħanniqa li tat lit-tfal kienet tassew ġejja mill-qalb.

Għal din l-okkażżjoni kienu mistiedna rapreżentanti minn kull skola tal-Kulleġġ tagħna u x-xorti messet lilna. Il-President qaltilna erba’ kelmiet mill-isbaħ dwar is-sbuħija li nagħtu xi ħaġa tal-flus lil nies li jkunu jew huma fil-bżonn. Kienet esperjenza li żgur ma jien ser ninsa qatt u nibqa’ ngħożż għal għommri kollu.
