Tree of the Month – White Poplar

The White Poplar – Il-Luq

The White Poplar is a deciduous tree with very particular leaves.  They are dark green from above but silvery white from below. As this tree needs a lot of water, it is very rare in the wild. The tree has been planted in parks and in public and private gardens. It grows quite a lot at Buskett Gardens in Wied il-Luq. It can also be found in other valleys which retain water such as Wied il-Qlejgħa.

Our EkoSkola & CHOGM 2015 Exhibition

As part of the EkoSkola programme and in collaboration with this year’s CHOGM event, we had a golden opportunity for our students to set up an in-house exhibition related to a particular Commonwealth country.  We had chosen to work on Jamaica and all the Primary classes produced projects related to this particular country.  The topics chosen were the following:

Year 6: HISTORY: Christopher Colombus, Slaves, The Spaniards, The British Independence
Year 5: NATIONAL COSTUME
Year 4: JAMAICAN FOOD AND FLOWERS
Year 3: FAMOUSE JAMAICAN PERSONALITIES
Year 2: MAP AND FLAG
Year 1: COAT OF ARMS

All students were very eager to participate in this project by doing some research and each class teacher and learning support assistant came up with very original ideas to produce their  work.  Special care and attention was taken to make use of recycled material as much as possible: keeping in mind that we are an EkoSchool and that this exhibition was organised by EkoSkola.  A very well done to all participants involved … and as our song goes: you definitely deserve the praises!

Everybody is more than welcome to visit this CHOGM exhibition at the Foyer of the Ministry of Education and Employment in Floriana between the 2nd and the 4th of December.
