Tree of the Month – Għargħar Tree

The Għargħar Tree – Is-Siġra tal-Għargħar

The Gharghar Tree is the national tree of Malta which is also very rare in the wild. It is usually about 10m in height.  This species of Cypress is on the World endangered list as the tree is only endemic to the Maltese Islands and to a small forest in the south of Spain. In Malta it is found in the wild at Maqluba and at Mellieħa. However it is being planted in many gardens.
