Shapes in animals

Ms Margaret`s Kinder 2 class today made a Maths lesson about shapes.  Shapes were included in the topic animals.  The activity started by recognising shapes with the use of flashcards.  After the children were all taking part playing a game on the Interactive white board. The teacher organized a game which showed them pictures of animals made with shapes.   One by one they created the animal with shapes like the picture shown.   Then they were all given colourful shapes, a blank paper each and a glue.  The children created their own animal with different shapes.  The children loved being creative with shapes and enjoyed doing animals in a different way.

Maths Fun with the Kinder classes!

On Friday 4th March another Maths day was organised at school but this time the Kindergarten 1 and 2 students participated.  In the early years there are no Maths lessons, but students learn Maths through play, through stories, through physical education etc.

During this Maths day kindergarten students practised their Maths skills through the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  First all students listened to the story, which was animated by an interactive story on the IWB and puppets.  Afterwards students practised counting and number recognition through a Physical education game where they had to choose a number card and then hop into hoops in order to reach the bowl filled with porridge.  Then students practised patterns, by helping Goldilocks choose her wallpaper pattern: students were given various pictures associated with the story and came up with different patterns.  One-to-one correspondence was also practised through Laying the table station, where students helped Goldilocks lay the table for herself and the three bears.  Finally students practised Small, Medium and Large when they helped the bears to put away their things:  students were shown various pictures showing objects in different sizes and they had to arrange them according to the size.

Students enjoyed themselves while practising various Mathematical skills, because Maths is fun!

Ħarġa sal-Buskett

It-Tnejn. 29 ta’ Marzu 2016, ħriġna ħarġa vera sabiħa – aħna l-membri tal-EkoSkola morna mawra sal-Buskett. Tgħidx kemm tgħallimna u ħadna gost. Iltqajna ma’ persuna li jieħu ħsieb it-tħawwil tas-siġar u pjanti u l-ambjent tal-Buskett. Imxejna mal-Buskett kważi kollu u lanqas rajna l-ħin itir. Waqt li konna mexjin rajna, missejna u xammejna tipi differenti ta’ siġar u pjanti. Rajna siġar li ilhom jeżistu aktar minn tmien mitt sena filwaqt li rajna oħrajn li għadhom ċkejknin. Rajna d-differenza bejn siġar li jikbru b’mod naturali u oħrajn li jikbru man-made jiġifieri jkun ħawwilhom il-bniedem. Ħawwilna xi siġar aħna wkoll. Ġbarna żerriegħa tal-ġandar u tal-weraq tar-rand u ħawwilnihom f’pots żgħar li ħadna magħna d-dar sabiex inkabbruhom aħna stess.

Kienet ħarġa verament sabiħa li tagħmel sens mat-tema tagħna għal dawn is-sentejn. Niftakru li qed naħdmu dwar it-tema tas-siġar. Nixtiequ nfakkru l-Eko Code tagħna li hi Trees are Treasures u verament is-siġar huma teżori…ejjew nieħdu ħsieb il-ftit siġar li għandna!

Miktuba mill-membri tal-Eko Skola flimkien ma’ Ms Brenda.

Tree of the Month – Judas Tree

The Judas Tree – Is-Siġra ta’ Ġuda

The Judas Tree has disappeared from the countryside where it was very common. This tree can only be seen in parks and in the streets.  The tree is semi-deciduous.  This means that most of the leaves drop during the autumn months and it flowers in early Spring. The flowers are purple in colour and they give our streets a wonderful look when Easter is approaching.
