Down Memory Lane

During the previous legislature,  when the Hon. Dolores Cristina was the Minister for Education, the Minister had found time to visit the schools. The visit to our school was scheduled for the 10th of May 2011. The Minister was surprised when she was greeted by all the pupils and the members of staff who gathered on the main staircase and in the foyer. We all sang some of our well known songs and the Head Girl delivered a speech of welcome.  Then the Minister was escorted around the school as she wished to see all the amenities.  On that day the pupils had politely asked the Minister to have the arches closed with aluminium windows. The Minister had said that she was going to see into the matter herself … and she surely did because during summer 2011 a public call for tenders was issued which resulted into our wish coming true!

Down Memory Lane – The Nativity Story

Scholastic Year 2013-2014 saw School Celebration Day being celebrated together with the Christmas Concert.  As part of this event the school came up with the idea of having a presentation which features the pupils themselves as characters in the nativity story.  This presentation was shown in the school hall and parents enjoyed seeing their own children dressed up for the occasion.  The nativity story is very popular as an act during this time of the year and through photos and speech bubbles the story was retold on the day too.

Down Memory Lane – A historical and IT project

The Maltese Ramblers Society had organised a competition for pupils in schools to get to know more about their own locality.  The Year 5 class together with Ms Miriam participated in this educational project.  It all started with the group going round the different areas of Floriana taking pictures of important and interesting features and back in their classroom they carried out a number of crafts in relation to the project.  The students even had the opportunity to interview a senior citizen from Floriana who was happy to share all his memories about the locality and facts that he knows about the pupils’ own home town.  Using computers the pupils designed a number of charts using the photos they had taken when out scouting around Floriana and all was presented in the school foyer.  It was a learning experience for all involved, because after all getting to know more about one’s locality is never enough!

Down Memory Lane – H.G. Archbishop’s Pastoral Visit

As part of the Archbishop’s Pastoral Visit to Floriana, which was held in March 2009, H.G. Archbishop Paul Cremona wished to spend some time at our school.  Everybody got really involved in this matter and we all greeting the Archbishop exuberantly and wholeheartedly.  The Archbishop had spent about 4 hours with us and he really enjoyed himself watching the concert that we had prepared. He found time to go round all the classes and even had time to meet the parents, the school administration and the members of staff. As a parting celebration we all gathered in the school yard were the year 6 class, all dressed up in animal costumes, danced to a jungle theme. Then we all recited the Our Father together. The Archbishop left our school with a broad smile on his face and a car load of beautiful cards, handmade crafts and other gifts.  Our school is surely a small one but when it comes to celebrations we leave no stone unturned!
