It’s Carnival Time!

It is Carnival time; the time before the 40 days of Lent. It was introduced in Malta by the Knights of Saint John and has, since then, been established as a time of general merrimaking and an artistic event full of colours and general fun. It is one of the main cultural events in the Maltese calendar, full of tradition that dates back more than 500 years. Carnival’s main activities are held in both Valletta and Floriana, as well as at Nadur in Gozo. Such activities attract not only the general public, but also a large number of tourists that literally invade such localities to experience such a unique multi-cultural event.

Carnival at our school was celebrated on Friday 28th February. Everyone came to school dressed in colourful costumes. After a special assembly, there was time for delicious and healthy food and carnival goodies. All danced merrily and jumped and hopped about to the happy tune of the carnival song and other popular tunes. Commemorative photos were taken.

Carnival Fever

On Friday 28th February, the year 2 class under the guidance of Ms Grace Attard presented a Special Assembly about the theme of Carnival.  A lively song was chosen “Carnival de Paris” and all the children participated.  A group of children played some instruments while the rest of the class danced to the music.  Instruments used were drums, maracas and tambourines.  A whistle and a toy trumpet were also used.  All the children were wearing carnival costumes and there was a jovial atmosphere.  The children’s interpretations on stage surely helped to brighten our day at school!

Wasal iż-Żmien tal-Karnival!

Il-klassi tal-Kindergarten K1.2 flimkien mal-għalliema tagħhom Ms Audrey Chetcuti hadmu bi sħiħ għall- festa li tara t-tfal jifirħu b’ħafna kuluri, żfin u xi ftit bluha wkoll.  Il-Buffu huwa sinonimu mal-Karnival u mhux biss kien ta’ ispirazzjoni għall-krafts li għamlu t-tfal fil-klassi biż-żebgħa ta’ kulur differenti u karti differenti mibnija fuq xulxin iżda kien ukoll it-tema li ġiet żvilluppata għall-karru tal-klassi!

Kemm ħadu pjaċir it-tfal bil-karru oriġinali li għamlu lkoll flimkien, u l-ors tagħhom kien li jduru madwaru jiżfnu u jkantaw l-Innu tal-Karnival – Jgħidu x-xjuħ u jgħidu t-tfal Viva Viva l-Karnival!

Wrap it all up!

On the 25th of February, the year 6 class had a cooking session in our school food lab.  All the students prepared their own wraps which were filled with a healthy filling mainly tuna, eggs, cheese, olives, capers, and tomato ketchup. When the filling was ready it was put on the wrap and the teacher showed the students how to close the wrap properly. Then the wraps were grilled and eaten by the students themselves!! It was a positive experience as the children were really motivated and eager to cook their own food.  After the activity the children put away and cleaned everything themselves.  This helps them to become more responsible.
