The month of May is known for flowers. It is typically the most beautiful month of the year. It is also a warm, spring like month which is why so many different types of flowers bloom The first day of the month of May is known as May Day. It is the time of year when warmer weather begins and flowers and trees start to blossom. It is said to be a time of love and romance. It is when people celebrate the coming of summer with lots of different customs that are expressions of joy and hope after a long winter.

May Day is a public holiday and it reminds us of Saint Joseph the Worker, who is the patron saint of all workers; thus Workers’ Day. There are other festivities such as Ascension Sunday and the Holy Trinity. The month of May is associated with Holy Mary and various churches hold feasts and special devotions in her honour. Mothers’ Day is held on the second Sunday in May. Malta’s popular festa season starts in May. There is a festa going on every weekend. The feast of Saint Publius is traditionally the first one of the season. Feasts continue to be celebrated in every Parish till September.
