October It Is!

Five little pumpkins, sitting on a gate,
The first one said, “Oh my! It’s getting very late!”
The second one said,”There are bats in the air!”
The third one said,”But we do not care!”
The fourth one said,”Let’s run, let’s run, let’s run!”
The fifth one said,”I am ready for some fun!”
“OO-oo” went the wind and out went the light,
And the five little pumpkins all ran out of sight!

It is October, the 10th month of the year.  October has 31 days and is the first full month of Autumn.  Now we all got back into the school routine and we are all looking forward to a delightful and fruitful scholastic year at school.  Now it is back to HWs, studying and going to bed early. October brings along some important feasts, such as the feast of Saint Francis on the 4th of October, the feast of the Holy Rosary on the 7th and the feast of Saint Luke on the 18th.  Then there is the commemoration of Dun Karm Psaila, our national poet. This is held in Floriana as the poet’s monument is situated at the end of Saint Ann’s Street.  October is also Breast Cancer Awareness month and many people wear pink or have a pink ribbon on their lapel.  Now the weather starts to get colder and soon we have to revert to our warmer clothes. It gets dark quite early and the sun stays for a shorter time in the sky!  Then, on the 31st it is Halloween:  time for some fun full of pumpkins and funny witches!
