The European School Sport Day (ESSD) is a school day dedicated to having fun, playing together and promoting physical activity and health for everyone. Our school, embedding such an ethos as part of its philosophy, has been an ESSD since last year.  Every year, towards the start of the new scholastic year, it takes part in this European celebration which provides a lot of opportunites for the school.

The European School Sports Day was held at our school on Friday 29th September 2017.  All the students turned up in their PE kits and all took part in various sports activities in our school yard.  The space was divided into different stations in which the students took an active role and enjoyed themselves whilst keeping in mind that health and wellbeing are very important for them.  This 120 minute activity was held with the collaboration of the Kunsill Malti tal-Isports and the direct involvement of coach Mr. Ludvic Bartolo.

During such events the students learnt:

  1. To raise the profile of physical education (PE) and school sport
  2. To create fun and enjoyment through physical activity initiatives for young people
  3. To promote health and wellbeing for lifelong learning
  4. To foster social inclusion and develop social competences among their students.

The European School Sport Day is inspired by the Hungarian School Sport Day; an event which has been organised by the Hungarian School Sport Federation for the last 10 years.

Kinder 2 Being Active

Ms Margert and Ms Jolene plan various Physical Activity Lessons for Kinder 2 Classes. During this particular lesson they planned to have two activities one was a parachute activity and the other one was catching the boy or girl having a tail.

Objectives: Parachute activity.

  • Asking individual children the colors of the parachute.
  • Learn new positions vocabulary such as Over our head, On the floor, Lifting up high.
  • Learning of intervals such as first walking with the parachute and then all of a sudden changing and start running with the parachute .
  • Hand and eye co ordination when having a ball on the parachute and trying to pull hands up as soon as they see the ball approaching so that the ball won’t fall .

Objectives: Catch the tail.

  • Using gross motor skills to run around the playground.
  • Taking turns to use the tail provided.

The happy faces on our little ones was sure proof of the fun the pupils were having and whenever the sun will be out and shining we will have many more opportunities to enjoy ourselves whilst keeping active in our school yard!

Għal din is-sena erġajna ħadna sehem fil-logħob tal-futsal. Ilkoll konna ppreparati sew u l-entużjażmu ta’ bejnietna ma naqasx ukoll. L-ewwel partiti jkunu bejn l-iskejjel tal-kulleġġ. Nistgħu ngħidu li pparteċipaw kważi l-iskejjel kollha tal-kulleġġ San Ġorġ Preca. L-istudenti tal-ħames u tas-sitt sena jieħdu sehem f’dan it-turnament. L-għalliema tal-P.E. tgħinna sabiex nilagħbu b’mod ġust u kif mistħoqq.

Wara din l-esperjenza, jintgħażlu xi tfal mill-ħames u mis-sitt sena sabiex jikkompetu kontra l-Kulleġġi kollha ta’ Malta. L-għalliema tal-P.E. għażlet xi studenti sabiex jingħaqdu mat-tim tal-Kulleġġ San Ġorġ Preca. Għal din il-ġurnata lbisna l-istess futbol kit sabiex inkunu kollha l-istess. L-ispirtu pożittiv li kien jinħass fil-grupp tagħna wassalna sabiex nerbħu l-medalja tal-Fair Play. Tgħidx kemm konna ferħanin! Apparti minn hekk irnexxielna niksbu riżultati tajbin ħafna waqt il-logħob.

Dawn il-ġranet ikunu mill-isbaħ għalina l-istudenti li nħobbu l-futbol. Inżommu lilna nfusna f’saħħitna waqt li nieħdu gost nilagħbu f’tim magħqud bi spirtu pożittiv!
